What should a homeowner do when a flat packed sauna kit finally arrives?

Before the truck arrives

Freight delivery is not parcel delivery. Most cabins arrive on a pallet or in a crate weighing several hundred pounds, on a truck that may or may not have a liftgate, and the driver's obligation often ends at the curb. Confirm with the seller what level of service you paid for, whether the driver will bring the crate to a garage or door, and whether a call ahead is included so you are actually home. Clear the route from the curb to the assembly location and measure every doorway, stair turn, and hallway against the largest panel dimensions listed in the manual. Panels that will not turn a corner are a real and common problem. Have a second adult available, a moving dolly if the ground is uneven, and a dry place to stage the panels if assembly will not happen the same day.

Receiving and inspecting the shipment

Inspect before you sign. Walk around the crate looking for crushed corners, punctures, water staining, and shifted straps, and photograph everything, including the undamaged sides. If the crate looks compromised, open it in front of the driver where possible and note any damage on the delivery receipt in specific terms. A signature without notation typically limits your ability to claim against the carrier later.

Once inside, unpack fully and count every component against the manifest before doing anything else. Panels, benches, heaters, the controller, glass, hardware bags, and cables should all be present and undamaged. Wood panels sometimes arrive with minor surface marks that are cosmetic, while cracked glass or a dented heater housing is not. Report shortages and damage to the seller the same day with photos, because most sellers have a short window for claims. Assembly done properly

Let the wood sit in the room where it will live for a day or two before assembly, particularly if it traveled from a very different climate, so that the panels settle before they are locked together. Assemble on a level, hard floor. Most prefabricated cabins use tongue and groove panels with buckle clasps or cam locks on the exterior, and they go together in a fixed order that the manual specifies. Two people is the minimum for the wall and ceiling stages. Dry fit each panel before locking it, check that the base is square by measuring diagonals, and keep the door panel square as you go, because a racked frame is the reason doors rub and glass cracks months later. Route the heater cables through the openings provided rather than pinching them between panels, and leave the electrical connection to the controller until every panel is in place. The first hour of operation

Before the first session, run the cabin empty at a moderate setting for a period, with the door open and the room ventilated, to drive off the light odor that new heaters and fresh wood release. This is normal and it fades. Check that every heater warms, that the lights and controls respond, and that the door closes with a consistent gap on all sides.

Keep the manual, the manifest, and your delivery photos together in a folder, digital or physical, alongside the warranty registration confirmation. If a heater fails in year three, this file is what turns a frustrating claim into a routine one.
